Dental X-Rays

X-Rays, or radiographs, are a commonly used diagnostic tool in dentistry. During your routing checkup, your dentist may recommend taking some radiographs. There are certain areas of the teeth and existing fillings that cannot be seen with the naked eye, or even with magnification. Surfaces in between the teeth and underneath old fillings can only be checked with x-rays. The radiation exposure from digital intra-oral x-rays is extremely minimal, and is similar to the radiation exposure you would get from taking a flight to London!

Sometimes your dentist may refer you to a specialist X-Ray clinic for extra-oral radiographs, such as OPG or Lateral Cephalogram. These X-Rays are commonly used to aide diagnosis and treatment orthodontic treatment, wisdom teeth jaw infections. Again, now that dental X-Rays are digital, the radiation exposure is minimal.
