A partial denture is a metal or plastic frame which has a false tooth attached. The frame fits inside the mouth, and is held in place by two or more metal clasps fitting around existing teeth.

A metal (cobalt chrome alloy) denture is not as bulky as a plastic one and can be made to fit more accurately, however, it is more costly compared to the plastic alternative. It would be inaccurate to say one type of denture is better than the other. Different dentures are appropriate for different situation, and no 2 mouths are the same.
